Dr Tünde Vankó

Dr Tünde Vanko

Dr Tünde Vankó is a Clinical Psychologist and has trained as an Advanced level Schema Therapist and Cognitive Behavioural therapist. She has practiced in the UK, in the United States, and in Hungary. Now based in the UK she has been working both in the NHS and privately.

Dr Vankó works with patients with a diverse range of difficulties, treating Depression, Anxiety disorders such as Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety and simple Phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, OCD, Body Dysmorphic Disorder and character issues and Personality Disorders. Dr Vankó works mainly with an integrative framework; that is using Schema Therapy with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) (see the psychology pages for explanations of these). She can practice in English and Hungarian.

In addition to her clinical work Dr Vankó supervises and trains other health professionals in Schema Therapy. She has been involved in setting up Schema Therapy training in Central Europe. She is engaged in research - in 2007 she received a Fulbright Scholarship to the Medical School of the University of Pennsylvania where she participated in research on depression and did further training in CBT. Currently she is finishing her PhD dissertation that examines the relationship between dysfunctional schemas and adult attachment styles in patients suffering from depression, anxiety and borderline personality disorder. In addition to her general clinical work with anxiety and depression her special interest is working with individuals suffering from characterological issues that may underlie their depression, anxiety and relationship difficulties. Often there is a long history of unsatisfactory relationships, feeling lonely, unhappy and discontent with life, but not knowing why. Dr Vankó especially enjoys working with these individuals and their response to Schema Therapy is typically very good.

Dr Vankó is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society. She is accredited by the British Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapies and licensed by the International Society of Schema Therapy.
