Dr Marco Catani

Dr Marco CataniDr Marco Catani is a Consultant Psychiatrist, working in the NHS as a member of staff of The Maudsley Hospital and Bethlem Royal Hospital. He is also Clinical Senior Lecturer at The Institute of Psychiatry.

Dr Catani trained in Italy in neurology and old age medicine, and undertook an MD in aspects of Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. He has worked with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, including primary progressive aphasia. After obtaining the Italian equivalent of the English CCST (higher training specialisation) in Geriatrics, he began a clinical career as a neuropsychiatrist. For this reason he moved to London in 2002 and additionally trained as SHO in clinical psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital.

Dr Catani is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) since 2005. He continued his higher training in general adult psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust and has in addition to his general psychiatry training had a special interest in adult ADD and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and the treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and a variety of genetic syndromes. He has been working also in the area of the neuropsychiatry of Multiple Sclerosis, Movement disorders, and Stroke.

Dr Catani is bilingual in English and Italian. He is available to see general psychiatry problems such as anxiety, depression, as well as more specialist problems such as adult ADD and ADHD, ASD, and patients with psychological and cognitive issues arising out of neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, and stroke.
